I’m a little older and grayer now, but I enjoy sharing my knowledge and skills with groups, and putting my experience to good use. Let me know how I can help you!
Guest Lectures and Professional Development
I have over twenty years’ experience working with K-12 educators, public groups (including Life Long Learning programs), and university students, offering both one-off lectures as well as longer, multi-session or multi-day trainings and professional development.
If you’re designing a program that requires content in the history of medicine and disease, Middle Eastern history, and/or Islamic history, I’m happy to discuss possibilities for in-person as well as remote delivery. (And, if you’re working on K-12 projects, I know your funding is limited!)
I am also available to consult on, as well as escort/lecture during academic tours of Egypt, Morocco, and Andalusia.
I have experience as an indexer for scholarly books. I find that working with content that I have some familiarity with (modern Middle East, history of medicine and disease) benefits both myself and the author. I am mostly familiar with indexes that follow the Chicago Manual of Style, but learn quickly.
My rates are pretty standard–around $1,400 for 200 pages, 3-4 terms per page–but, again, negotiable.
I can also check Arabic transliteration either using the IJMES standard, or less stringent press requirements (i.e., only using ‘ayn, hamza).
A couple of summers ago I taught myself how to use ARCGIS and have produced maps for my own use as well as publication.
Rates depend on the amount of work involved and number of maps needed. Let’s talk!
